Job Description

Egg Production Uganda Ltd (EPL) is a start-up business in the commercial egg production sector based in Kiteete village, Mityana district, Central Uganda.

Starting with a flock of 15,000 layers EPL plans to run a business that is socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. Egg production Uganda ltd is therefore looking for a self-motivated and experienced individual who would like to make a difference to fill the role of  Poultry attendants (2) and provide support at the farm.

The successful candidate will be expected to at times spend weeknights at the farm and be responsible for the daily operational  support of its day-to-day activities.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performs any combinations of following duties concerned with raising poultry for eggs and meat: Removes chicks from shipping cartons and places them in brooder houses.
  • Cleans and fills feeders and water containers.
  • Sprays poultry houses with disinfectants and vaccines.
  • Inspects poultry for diseases and removes weak, ill, and dead poultry from flock.
  • Collects eggs from trap nests, releases hens from nests, and records number of eggs laid by each hen.
  • Packs eggs in cases or cartons; selects, weighs, and crates fryers and pullets; and records totals packed or crated on shipping or storage document.
  • Maintains feeding and breeding reports.
  • Monitors feed, water, illumination, and ventilation systems; and cleans, adjusts, lubricates, and replaces systems parts, using hand tools.
  • May cut off tips of beaks.
  • Assist in stock taking of the birds and eggs.
  • Maintain a clean farm environment.

The ideal candidate must have experience in attending to chicken birds especially layers to the whole farm. Candidates with experience in attending to a chicken layer farm will have an added advantage.

You will need:

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Flexibility to work a non-traditional work schedule based on seasonal and situation demands including extended hours and workweek.
  • Willingness to work as a team.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision, proactive and organized.
  • Able to handle pressure and remain focused.
  • High degree of discretion dealing with confidential information.
  • A Uganda Certificate of Education / any equivalent will be an added advantage with 2+ years’ experience in handling a chicken layer farm.
